Caffeine. Something some people just can’t live without. It’s that early morning hit that gets you focused and energized for the day. But what is caffeine really? And what does caffeine do to your body?
Well Rebels, we’ve got your answers. A Rebels Guide to Caffeine is going to cover some of your most pressing caffeine questions, like:
- What is caffeine?
- What does caffeine do to your body?
- How much caffeine should you take?
- How much caffeine is in JNX Sports products?
That’s enough pillow talk, let’s get into it.
What is caffeine?
No surprises here. Caffeine ranks as one of the most used dietary ingredients in the world. [1] Commonly found in household drinks like coffee and tea, caffeine is a naturally occurring methylxanthine that stimulates your central nervous system, combats fatigue and increases alert levels.
Now rebels, on to the next question:
What does caffeine do to your body?
Caffeine is an adenosine receptor antagonist, and rebels know we love a good antagonist. This means that caffeine affects the adenosine receptors in the brain which in turn promotes wakefulness. The stimulant effects of caffeine also promote alertness and reduce feelings of fatigue. [2]
Sounds stimulating, doesn’t it slayers? In fact, caffeine has also been shown to stimulate dopamine receptors. [3] Stimulating these receptors may lead to increased concentration, and we’re all about that tunnel vision mental focus.
Caffeine has also been shown to increase dopamine receptor availability, which leads to positive mood and motivation effects, and may also improve motor control. [4]
Sounds good to us, but is there such a thing as too much of a good thing? Which leads us to our next question:
How much caffeine should you take?
Let’s be straight – too much caffeine can cause some serious problems. Increased heart rate, jitters, headache...the list goes on. And whose got time for a headache mid set?
Not us, so it’s important that you always assess your tolerance and consult with a healthcare professional before use if you have any pre-existing conditions or are taking other over the counter or prescription medications.
Generally speaking, the FDA recommends no more than 400mg of caffeine per day, however sensitivity and metabolisms do vary from person to person. [6] And because tolerance levels do vary, you’ll want to choose the right pre-workout for where you’re at. For example, The Curse! is our OG pre-workout with 155mg of caffeine, while The Shadow! is for hardcore users with 350mg of caffeine.
Now that we’ve covered that, we can move on to the good stuff…
How much caffeine is in JNX Sports products?
Like we mentioned earlier, the caffeine amounts in our products vary and it’s important to choose one that fits your tolerance and goals.
The Curse! is our OG pre-workout with 155mg of caffeine. Depending on your tolerance, you can take this bad boy 1-3 times a day. But don’t be fooled, The Curse! packs a serious punch and is widely praised as being the ultimate in pre-workouts, making it a good option for both pre-workout newbies and hardcore users alike.
Speaking of hardcore…introducing The Shadow! The Shadow! is like The Curse!’s scary older brother, and users should proceed with caution. This absolute dragon of a pre-workout boasts 350mg of caffeine. That’s nearly a day’s caffeine in one single hit, which means serious mental focus, electric energy and savage strength.* If you can handle it, The Shadow! is seriously dark, and seriously good.
Moving on from pre-workouts, we’ve also got some insane fat burners to consider. The Omen! comes in capsule form, and with 300mg of caffeine it’s going to torch fat and promote an extreme metabolic burn.* The Omen! is dark, and The Omen! delivers. We’re talking appetite control, super thermogenesis, and extreme energy.* We like to call it the holy grail of fat burners.
Meanwhile its creepy cousin The Ripper! weighs in at 200mg of caffeine. We like to say that taking The Ripper! is like being plugged in to lightning. This baby goes to work after the first dose* and delivers its namesake – pure rippedness. With more than a million bottles sold worldwide, The Ripper! is one of the most effective and fast acting fat burners on the market today.*
